History of Platypus World

In the beginning

Thousands of years ago a planet was shared by two species. The Octosquads, and the Platypus. The Octo were clever, smart, industrious, kind and hard working. The Platypus (originally of long beak variety) were savage yet simple, lazy and carefree but fun loving. Over the course of natural history, the two species started to intermingle more and more. A large and open planet became much smaller as the populations grew. The Platypus view of the Oct had been one of awe, and astonishment. Many Platypi were dazzled by the technology of the Octo, and went to live with them in the north. (See: The great separation)

There was a price. The Platypi were not bright. they could not meaningfully contribute to the Oct’s advanced society, so they did what they could and served as pets on the low end, some served as waiters, and others were good enough for waste disposal. But the Platypi were content to live this way so long as they got to play with their shiny technological toys.  For hundreds of years the Platypi  had an unfortunate relationship with the Octo technology, using it irresponsibly and sometimes dangerously, costing many Octos and Platypi alike their lives. Tension began to build between the two species as the Octos, who once adored the Platypus, turned a critical eye towards their dangerously primitive behavior. The catalyst of this tension between the races, was the…. Races.

The Races

Oct transports were fast and efficient. The Platypi, to the best of their abilities, heavily modified these to create “Beak Racers”, a tradition that carries through to this day. At first the Octo joined in on these races, making further advances to Beak Racer technology, until it got too dangerous. Dong Weldman was the first “aggro” racer. He would knock other racers off the course leading to their injury or death. This growing display of mayhem excited the Platypus populous, and prompted many Octo’s to leave the racing scene, it had become too barbaric. Other, more aggressive racers however joined the fray. Some would literally dock to another racer and fist fight or duel with swords while their racers flew in autopilot. Danton Filestork classically flew a giant overpowered racer, which was home to him, his wife and five kids. During a race you’d commonly see his wife doing chores or his kids watching tv through the windows.

The races were eventually outlawed during Octo reign, after Dong Weldman literally ran all racers off into other buildings killing not only the racers, but people in those buildings. Everyone had thought the carnage was done now that Dong had a clear shot to the finish line. But he swerved and ran his beak racer right into a large skyscraper scaffold, which collapsed the building. He ejected before it hit, but didn’t notice the low hanging overpass and exploded upon impact. According to his last journal entry he thought this was going to be the “next big thing”. Tension began to grow between the Oct and Plat.

The Great Immolation and the final straw

A notable Platypi by the name of ‘Intolerable Boonis’ sought to throw the largest party to ever exist on the planet. Oct and Plat alike were invited, though most participants were Platypus. Hundreds of thousands celebrated all over the world. Unfortunately common fireworks weren’t’ enough for Boonis’s party, and he lit the waste sewers ablaze in hopes of a giant beautiful explosion to forever seal him into the history books as the worlds biggest “partier”. “Watch the fire burn!” He screamed with delight as he lit the highly unstable sewer gasses ablaze with a laser torch. It did seal him into the history books, but not as the great partier he had hoped, but rather as the platypus who exploded the waste sewers. Millions of oct and platypi lives were lost in the great explosion and firestorm that followed. The Octs immediately outlawed the use of technology by Platypi. They were found to be too foolish to use and have access to this technology.

The creation of this law sparked the first Platypus rebellion. The simple motivation being they wanted their shiny toys back so they could play with them. As the resentment of this law grew, the rebellion turned to full violence in the street with sloppy fist fights between Octs and Plats. Most of the time Platypi would win due to their bipedal anatomy and height giving them an edge. These small skirmishes eventually gave birth to the Great Puss Wars, which has never really ended.

The Platypi people’s physical advantage helped them win many battles by kicking and punching the soft jelly Octo’s.

New weapons were developed to fight the mobs of Platypi which were effective until those weapons fell into the Platypus hands. With the advantage of opposable thumbs, the Platypi were better at using these weapons.

In the final battle of the Puss Wars, the Platypi had taken over the massive Oct city. Hundreds of thousands of Octo’s were dead, the last remaining were forced to evacuate the planet. They retreated to an off world colony that was established as a research outpost on a neighboring planet. This hostile world became the new Planet Octillipus. The surviving Octo’s were filled with anger and resentment over the absurd situation. Generations living on this ugly planet made them a hardened militant people, bitter about the past.

They continue to develop new weapons and technology with the hope of someday taking back their Planet which has now been offensively renamed Platypus World.

The Platypus having conquered the massive Oct city began to reverse engineer Octo technology which gave them a massive technological boost. Since most of them are dumb, this effort was made by the few who are born with an above average IQ.

The Platypi continue to thrive and now are competent enough to develop new technologies and gadgets of their own to play with. One of their greatest achievements was planetary defense, which has been able to keep the Octo’s from returning for now. Many attempts at invasion have been thwarted by the planetary defense system leaving the Puss Wars conflict at a stalemate.

*The great seperation - When the major portion of the platypi population split from the smaller portion. The smaller anti-tech portion stayed in the jungles to the south. They are savage long beaks and have been long forgotten about.

*The Pus Wars - The ongoing conflict between the Platypus and the Octo-pus. AKA “The Cold Pus.”
